Troop 502 kicked off the new Scouting year last weekend with a low key and relaxing trip to Camp Trask in Monrovia. They enjoyed the fresh air, lovely weather and swimming. Come join us on our next outing!
Important Message from our Troop Committee Chair:
Families, REMINDER … there will be a mandatory parent meeting on Monday, September 16 (next week) in the WAC from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. The Troop will be collecting troop dues and medical forms.
Troop Dues
There has been a correction to the amount of the Troop dues for this scouting year. The cost of the first scout is $260 and the cost of the second is $234.
Medical Forms
Every scout will need to have a new BSA Medical form parts A&B. This applies even if your scout went to camp this summer. This form does not require a physical and is signed only by the parent.
Adult Volunteers
The troop has a desperate need for the following adult positions to be filled:
· New Assistant Scoutmasters - Rose Bowl District Training Team will do the training.
· Adults for Outings - we need approx. 4 adults for every outing to maintain safety. Signup Genius links are already listed on the troop calendar for all of this year’s events.
· New Orienteering Skills Leader - Training is offered on November 9 through the Council’s High Adventure Team (HAT)
· New Swim Skills Leader
· New Fundraising Chair - to oversee the Camp Card Program and Memorial Day Snow Cones - Both events are between February and May 25.
· New Medical Forms Chair - Maintains the medical records for the troop scouts and adults
· New Treasurer
· New Advancement Chair - Handles the Board of Review evenings and maintains the records for input into Troopmaster. There are three Advancement nights scheduled for this scout year.
· Adults for the Court of Honor Preparation Team - 4 parents to organize and prepare the Court of Honor packets
There are a lot of jobs here but if every family in the Troop helps with something it is a smooth operation. Everyone helping out with one item has been a key to our adult leadership over the years.
Please give some thought before next week and think about how you and your family is able to help.
Thank you,
Cindy Sercel

The Scouts of Troop 502 attended Three Falls Scout Camp in the Los Padres National Forest this summer over the week of July 4th. The 15 scouts earned merit badges, went on multiple hikes and other outdoor adventures. About half of the troop members also earned their Polar Bear Plunge patch for a brisk swim at dawn. Several scouts earned their mile swim award. The troop also climbed on the camp’s 50’ foot climbing wall.
