Camp Trask - Bobcat Fire Update - From the Greater Los Angeles Area Council, BSA Weekly Scouter Update Newsletter.
The Bobcat Fire began in the Angeles National Forest in Azusa, CA, on Sunday, September 6, and now threatens the foothill communities of Duarte, Bradbury, Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Pasadena, and Altadena. Many of you have asked whether Trask Scout Reservation has been impacted by this fire.
Some of the upper campsite areas of camp and the shotgun range were damaged by fire. Thankfully, Camp Trask remains largely intact thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the Monrovia Fire and Rescue and other fire departments which battled back the fire and created fire breaks and controlled burns to protect the property.
We are thankful for the 1,158 personnel assigned to the fire. To date, 44,393 acres have burned with 3% containment. As a small gesture of our appreciation, Ranger Anthony Villalobos dropped off some drinks and snacks at the command center on Saturday (photo attached). We continue to monitor the situation and are concerned about those who are affected by the fire and smoke.
A small, but mighty, group of Troop 502 scouts worked to collect food donations or brought food to donate this morning. If you missed the chance to earn some service hours don't worry! We will do this again in November. Watch for details.
